Been stellar - solid performers but kind of self indulgent rock without strong lead vocals - potential but not yet - 2/5 Friday Pilots club - got a spot on the rail and got to watch the band set up. Ava arrived just in time. Incredible show! They are a near perfect pop rock band – great sound that is both danceable and singable, with lots of rock elements. Only downside was that they aren’t great performers, but not terrible – good banter from lead singer. We thought his fly was down but it turned out he just had tight pants on! 5/5 Tigercub – terrific new rock band – kind of halfway between Muse and Queens of Stone age. Super tall lead singer with excellent floppy hair. Good stage presence and a fun rock show – 4/5 Quarters of Change – just a confounding band. They have lots of good songs and the lead singer is super active. But his voice isn’t great and they go on too long with boring parts of songs. 2/5 Bad Nerves – once again got on the rail. These guys were amazing – basically the new ramones. Fast and danceable punk, with great stage activity and presence. Hard to sing along since so fast and a bit unclear, but just an amazing show to rock out to. Ava came up late in the show and had fun moshing! 5/5 Then went over to big stages – Ava & crew went to hold a stop for Offspring Royal Blood – these guys are just the ultimate rockers. Amazing songs that are great rock and yet danceable and signable. Still amazed he can do all this with just a bass guitar. Had to leave about ¾ through to get to offspring, but still an epic show – 5/5 Offspring – Fought my way through to get close to front with Ava & friends. Offspring were amazing as always. Basically the same show I had see three times before (a bit shorter since they only had an hour), including same jokes (Ava unfortunately believed that they were serious about 1.3 million folks in crowd). But they are simply the best all bangers band out there – no songs that weren’t totally rocking and great to jump and sing along to. We had an amazing time, except for woman who tried to push Ava out of the way – but she pushed back! 5/5 Queens of the Stone Age – they throw an great big stadium rock show. Great lights, great sound. A big “jammy” at times, but overall a great sound and surpsingly good for singing along with chorus. Had to leave early to get a spot for Weezer, but loved what I saw – 4/5 Weezer – Classic Weezer show. They are not great performers or have particularly good stage presence. But they are the ultimate sing along rock band. Everyone was into their well known songs. They played some more obscure ones that didn’t go over that well. It got crowded up front so we went to the back, which was actually great as I met some nice folks to rock out with (the woman even thought I was in college when Weezer’s album came out in 1994!). 4.5/5
