Concert Details

Date:
Friday, November 17, 2023
Venue:
Autódromo Hermanos Rodríguez
Location:
Mexico City, Mexico City, Mexico
Notes:

Simply put, the best 2.5 days of music of my life. Came with Ava and we caught some shows together and some separate. So many great things about the event:
1) The crowd - really polite and gave lots of room to move, even at crowded shows. But not dead - very energetic and engaged. Plus folks are somewhat shorter on average so easier to see the stage!
2) The venue - stages are as close together as they can possibly be, allowing you to get quickly from act to act. Literally on the first two days there was no dead time - could just go from act to act.
3) amenities - lots of bathrooms & water refill - also food & drink passed through crowd so you could buy some while waiting.
4) The commerce - all cashless wristband which made it easy. then outside there was like a quarter-mile of bootleg vendors selling really cheap swag - I got six t-shirts and a sweatshirt, and Ava got a bag, a hat, two sweathsirts, and a bunch of t shirts!
5) The bands - not only was the lineup amazing, but bands seemed really happy to be there - everyone kept talking about how it was their first time playing in Mexico!
Couple downsides:
1) 98% locals and weren't really fun to engage with - polite but not chatty (in english at least)
2) Ava and I both were feeling pretty sick!

Reviews for Day 1:

• busty - good vibe and way to warmup - 3.5/5
• Soccer mommy - great rocking instrumentals but vocals are purposely too laid back
• Yard act - outstanding performance. Great crowd energy. Not really sing along but fun - 4/5
• Mother mother - amazing show. Perfect fit for festival - they played all the songs I like and none i don’t. Great performance and stage presence Probably worth seeing just for good songs - 4.5/5
• Fitz - took a bit to get into it but once they played out of my league it was great. Just a fun pop show - 4/5
• 2DCC- outstanding. Most fun with Ava at the festival. Great sing along and great video - 5/5
• Phoenix - not really fair since just came in and out but they really weren’t very good - 2/5
• Hives - possibly best non-killers festival show of my life. So much energy and such great collective exuberance. Everyone jumoing and shouting together Even talked to the crowd fluently in Spanish! Amazing - 5/5
• Pulp - terrible! Their pop hits were fun but the rest was just self indulgent slow stuff. 2/5
