Dave Matthews Band, also known as "DMB” by fans, is an American rock and jam band, known for their unique, improvisational live performances and classic hits like the 1996 Grammy winning “So Much to Say,” “Crash into Me,” and “Satellite.” The band experiments with a variety of genres including jazz, soft rock, folk rock, funk rock, alternative rock, roots rock, indie rock, and more.
Dave Matthews is the front man of the Dave Matthews Band. Between 1990 and 1991, he gathered the original founding members and brought the Dave Matthews Band to life. In 1994, they released their multi-platinum debut album Under the Table and Dreaming.
In 1990, Dave Matthews approached Carter Beauford with a few demo tapes. After listening to the demos, Beauford agreed to become the drummer and second member of what would soon become the Dave Matthews Band. Around the same time, Matthews approached LeRoi Moore who joined on saxophone in 1991.
The trio discovered that they need more instrumentals to produce the sound they desired and brought on Stefan Lessard on bass and Boyd Tinsley on violin. Though Tinsley would not join the band formally until 1992, the first known David Matthews show was performed on Marc 14, 1991 at a local Charlottesville venue called TRAX.
