Frank Ocean (born October 28, 1987) is an American rapper, singer, and songwriter who started his career as a member of the hip-hop collective Odd Future Wolfgang Kills Them All (OFWGKTA, Odd Future). He released his first mixtape "Nostalgic, Ultra" independently in early 2011 with his first studio album "Channel Orange" dropping the following year. "Channel Orange" went on to win Best Urban Contemporary Album at the 2013 Grammys. Uniquely blending hip-hop, R&B, soul, psychedelia, pop, and other genres both as a solo artist a member of Odd Future, Ocean is one of the most critically acclaimed artists of the 2010s. In addition to his own work, he's also produced tracks for Justin Bieber, John Legend, Brandy, Beyoncé, and others.

First emerging in the music scene as a ghostwriter, Frank Ocean joined the hip-hop collective Odd Future Wolf Gang Kill Them All (OWFGKTA), or simply Odd Future in 2010. On February 26, 2011, Ocean dropped his independently produced and critically acclaimed mixtape Nostalgia, Ultra.
In 2012, Ocean released his first studio album Channel Orange, which was widely considered one of the best albums of the year. His second studio album Blonde, which followed in 2016, was also widely acclaimed by critics. However, Ocean refused to submit the album for consideration to the Grammys stating that he didn’t believe the institution represented people like himself.
In the years since, Ocean has released singles from himself and other artists on his Apple Music 1 radio show mostly performed with other artists including “Slide”, a collaboration between himself, Calvin Harris, and members of Migos. He’s also persued other artistic endeavors including fashion and photography.
Frank Ocean is well-known for producing an experimental, avant-garde style of music that incorporates elements of R&B, soul, hip-hop, and psychedelia.
Frank Ocean's birth name is Christopher Edwin Breaux, but he uses the stage name Frank Ocean, which combines "Frank Sinatra" and “Ocean’s 11,” a film in which Sinatra stared.
After ghostwriting for several years, Ocean joined Odd Future but felt as if his talents were going unnoticed by the executive at Def Jam Records, with whom he had signed a contract in 2009.
