While the Eagles are based in Los Angeles, the members of the rock band hail from all over the country. Don Henley is from Texas, Glenn Frey is from Michigan, Berne Leadon is from Minnesota, and Randy Meisner is from Nebraska.
The newer additions to the band are also from other states. Don Felder and Timothy B. Schmit both came from California while Joe Walsh is from Kansas.
The Eagles formed in 1971 in Los Angeles. The original members (Don Henley, Randy Meisner, Glenn Frey, and Bernie Leadon) moved to Los Angeles to pursue different musical careers, but in 1971, David Geffen (their producer and manager) signed the four musicians as a group for the label he co-created, Asylum Records.
The Eagles were formed in 1971 by:
Don Felder joined in 1974 as a multi-instrumentalist and guitarist alongside Leadon with Leadon departing in 1975, the same year Joe Walsh joined the band on guitar, vocals, and keyboards. Meisner left in 1977 and was replaced by Timothy B. Schmit. The Eagles broke up in 1980 but reunited in 1994 with Felder, Henley, Walsh Frey, and Schmit returning as the core line-up until Felder's departure in 2001.
Don Felder was fired from the band in 2001 by the lead vocalists Henley and Frey. Those two were allegedly receiving a higher percentage of the band's revenues than he was, and Felder questioned why. While Felder did go to court against Henley and Frey over this matter, the results were not broadcasted publicly. After Felder's departure, the Eagles continued on as a quintet until 2013 when Leadon returned. Leadon departed a second time in 2016, the same year of Frey's death.
Following the successes of their hit song “Take it to the Limit” in 1975, which Randy Meisner had written, and their career-changing album Hotel California in 1976, the demands of touring and fame became too much for Meisner who left the band in 1977, citing "exhaustion." Meisner passed on July 26, 2023, due to complications from COPD
Glenn Frey died at the age of 67 on January 18, 2016, as a result of complications from several illnesses, including pneumonia, acute ulcerative colitis, and rheumatoid arthritis.
Don Henley, one of the founding members of the Eagles, was born on July 22, 1947. He is 76 years old.
Vince Gill joined the Eagles in 2017, following the unfortunate death of Glenn Frey. He was hired as co-lead vocalist alongside Gill’s son Deacon Frey.
The song “Love Will Keep Us Alive” was first recorded in 1994 and sung by Timothy B. Schmitt, during the “Hell Freezes Over” tour.
Eagles has had 1,433 concerts.
