In 1988, what is now known as The Middle East Restaurant and Nightclub began its first expansion by converting a nearby bakery into The Middle East - Corner & Bakery into a restaurant, bar, and small-stage venue. The Corner & Bakery additionally acts as the entrance, waiting room, and ticket box office for The Middle East - Downstairs, a larger venue built beneath The Middle East entertainment complex also in 1988.
