Ég was formed somewhere in the year 2002 (band members do not agree when). They ended the year 2002 by releasing their debut album, Skemmtileg lög (Fun Songs, loosely translated). The first single Geitungarnir mínir did well in radio airplay and was somewhat a hit on the national radio. Since then the band has had a slight change in line-up, mainly in the drumming department. In the summer of 2005, Ég released their second album, bearing the humble title of Plata ársins(The Album of the Year).
