About a week ago, we discovered a few photos containing nudity uploaded onto the platform. The photos were artistic in nature and part of a concert performance, but we both paused for a moment and had to ask ourselves:
“Should we allow nudity on the platform?”
We had a brief discussion and went back and forth for a bit.
There was an argument to be made that prohibiting “artistic or non-sexualized nudity” might not be totally in line with our values of freedom of artistic expression and historical accuracy.
However, community and collaboration are also core values we try to live by at Concert Archives, and not everyone is comfortable with nudity. Some object on moral, political, or religious grounds, and there are also minors on the platform.
We had to take all of that into consideration…
What We Decided
Accepting people of all belief systems and creating a space where everyone can feel welcome and safe, including minors, suggests pretty strongly that we needed to prohibit nudity.
And this is what we finally decided:
- Artistic or non-sexualized nudity is only allowed if the sensitive areas are blurred/censored.
- Sexually explicit nudity is strictly prohibited.
As we discussed this further, we also realized that there are other things we needed to prohibit to fully live up to our values of community, collaboration, and inclusivity, such as abusive or discriminatory content or content actively encourages violence against other people.
We have now formalized a short list of Prohibited Content guidelines which can be found in our Terms and Conditions:
