We’ve made quite a few updates to the platform over the last few weeks. We’ve already discussed some of these, but there’s a few things that we haven’t mentioned and a few cool projects in the works.
What We’ve Already Discussed
We released the Compare Concerts tool for Historians which allow our Historians to better compare duplicate concerts and report them to us so that we can get them merged together. This is a major step forward in our continuing “Big Clean” project to clean up duplicate pages and standardize data across the platform.
We also discussed the new Database Guidelines for multiple bands with the same name and Crown Dependencies within the United Kingdom.
A Few Other Updates
In addition to these larger projects, here’s another batch of updates that we’ve made to the website and app recently.
- We created a new ‘Media Requests & Usage‘ page on the website to better explain the usage rights of photos & videos on Concert Archives and to help journalists and other media professionals request content from our community.
- We no longer automatically capitalize user names as it can cause issues with certain names (particularly names with special characters, capitalization, and spacing).
- We added the concert creation date to the ‘Edit History’ log on the web.
- We made more improvements to our background processes for finding and merging duplicate bands, venues, and locations.
- We changed our infrastructure for running background processes for updating and cleaning data to be more reliable and efficient.
- Plus several minor bug fixes and improvements.
Future Projects and Things To Look Forward To
We’re currently working hard on transitioning the Gigit users and data over to Concert Archives and hope to have that complete in the next week or two.
Another thing we’ve been working on is how we display the attendees on concert pages. We haven’t updated that in forever and it currently just shows a random list of attendees. We’re upgrading that to better highlight your friends, followers, and Patrons! We think you’ll like it 😀
And, of course, we’re getting the final pieces put in place for Saturday’s first ever Patron Live Chat. It will be our first, and we’re really look forward to it.
