Songs We Can’t Wait to Hear Live – December Update

Wow! Can you believe December is almost over already? Time sure does fly when you’ve got tons of new tunes to listen to. Here are some of our favorite releases from the last month that we can’t wait to see live!

Less Than Jake – Silver Linings

Silver Linings is Less Than Jake’s ninth studio album, and their first since 2013’s See the Light. Given that the band has so many songs now, it’ll be interesting to see how many of these new tracks make the setlist. Most of the band’s setlists seem to skew towards the older albums, but in all likelihood at least of few of the tracks from Silver Linings will make the cut now and again. Overall, Less than Jake’s new album is a solid release, which spans a lot of different styles within the genre. The band played their first livestream of the year from Gainesville on release day, and it remains to be seen if they’ll do any more before shows return.

The Moore Family Band – Missy

If you haven’t heard of The Moore Family Band until now, it’s because they didn’t exist until earlier this year. The Moore Family Band, made up of siblings Alyssa, Randy, and Dylan Moore, came together earlier this year when the siblings reunited during the COVID-19 lockdown. Randy and Dylan play together in the band Get Married, also on Asian Man Records, so the signing of their new project to the same label made sense. The album, Missy, is named after the family dog, and includes features from Jeff Rosenstock and Peter Niven (The Atom Age). The band has played some livestreams lately, but hopefully The Moore Family Band keeps at it even when lockdown ends, and we can catch some IRL gigs.

Clearbody – One More Day

Another (somewhat) new band with an album out this month is Clearbody. The band, formerly known as Dollhands, first came together in 2019, and renamed themselves, starting fresh, earlier this year. This album, One More Day, is the band’s first under their new name. I only caught the band once under their previous name (opening for Stars Hollow and Niiice.), but these new songs guarantee that I’ll be making an effort to catch them live next time it’s possible.

Jason Lancaster – Say I’m What You Want EP

You many recognize his voice as the early co-vocalist of Mayday Parade or vocalist of Go Radio, but Jason Lancaster has once again stepped out on his own. This new EP, released December 11 via Triumphant Records, is Jason Lancaster’s third solo release, he previously released the album As You Are in 2014 and a worship album under the name Lncstr in 2017. This new release harkens back to Lancaster’s pop punk/emo roots. If you’re a fan of either of his previous full band projects, you’re sure to enjoy this EP.

Mat Kerekes – Songs for Breanne EP

Another rocker who has a solo project is Mat Kerekes (of Citizen). Despite releasing an EP just a few months ago and an LP last year, Mat Kerekes is back again with a new EP, Songs for Breanne. Like his previous solo releases, Kerekes’ newest release is more acoustic than listeners of Citizen might expect. Having the chance to see him play solo earlier this year with Motion City Soundtrack (named our best concert of the year!), I can tell you firsthand how well these solo songs translate to the stage, and I expect these new songs will be no exception!

The Dangerous Summer – All That is Left of the Blue Sky EP

In addition to being the Holiday season, it seems like it may be EP season as well as The Dangerous Summer released their newest EP this month too. All That is Left of the Blue Sky is the band’s first independent release, as all previous releases have been on Hopeless Records. If you haven’t gotten into this band yet, I highly recommend at least giving this new EP a listen. Personally, I can’t wait to catch this band live again sometime and to hear what they get up to next!
