In early April, we released the “Historian Concert Compare” Tool, which allows Historians to compare duplicate concerts and report any errors to us. That tool has proven very useful, and several of our Historians have been making good use of it.
We added another feature for Historians, which should make things even easier for them to add and edit concerts…
“Don’t Add This Concert To My Archive”
The purpose of the Historian role is to enable users to help ensure the historical accuracy of concert data across the platform.
This is accomplished mainly when Historians add concerts that are missing or editing concerts that have inaccurate data, like missing bands or an incorrect venue.
To do this, Historians had to first add these concerts into their Personal Concert Archive, even if they hadn’t attended the concert. This was a problem for two reasons:
- It added an extra step that made doing Historian work more time consuming.
- If they removed the concert from their archive, they risked having the corrected concert deleted (concerts added by regular users are deleted nightly if they don’t have any attendees).
Historians are now be able to add and edit concerts without adding them to their personal archive. They can just check a box at the bottom of the “Add Concert” or “Edit Concert” page that says, “Don’t add this concert to my archive”
One Step Further: Uploading Photos & Videos
Historians also often add historically valuable photos and videos like:
- Ticket Stubs
- Images of set lists
- Live Performances
- Promotional material like posters and newspaper clippings
Like other users, Historians had to first add the concert to their Personal Archive before uploading photos and videos. But now, they can upload photos and videos straight away!
And There’s More…
Historians can now do anything on a concert without adding it to their Personal Archive, including:
- Adding comments and reviews
- Inviting attendees
- Refreshing setlists
All of these features are available on both the web browser and app, so this should make it easy for Historians to do everything wherever they are and on whatever device they have with them.
Additionally, we’re working on creating a new Historian page on the website that will better highlight the Historian role, the benefits/features, and how to become one.
Stay tuned for that!
