Mötley Crüe is an American heavy metal band that started in Los Angeles, California on January 17, 1981. The band was founded by bassist guitarist Nikki Sixx and drummer Tommy Lee, who then recruited lead guitarist Mick Mars and vocalist Vince Neil.
Mick Mars was one of the first members of Mötley Crüe. He was recruited by Nikki Six and Tommy Lee in April 1981, making him 29 years old when he joined. This makes him the oldest member of the band.
Mötley Crüe, the band, is 43 years old, having formed on January 17, 1981.
Mötley Crüe generally means “a strangely mixed group.” While trying to come up with a good name for the band, Mick Mars recalled an event in which he was playing with a band called White Horse and one of the other band members labeled the group "a motley looking crew." He memorized the term and wrote it down as 'Mottley Cru’. The entire band liked it. With a few little changes, they became Mötley Crüe.
Vince Neil, lead singer of Mötley Crüe, and Nicholas Razzle Dingley, drummer of the band Hanoi Rocks, were involved in a car accident in late 1984. Vince Neil was driving when he lost control of the vehicle and hit another car. The accident was fatal and caused the death of Dingley.
Mötley Crüe broke up for the first time in 1992 when lead singer Vince Neil quit. Neil rejoined the band in 1996 and continued to tour and record with them until the band's retirement in 2015. However, Mötley Crüe announced a comeback and came out of retirement in 2019.
Though the line up of Mötley Crüe has changed over the years, the founding members are all still living. There ages are:
With a net worth of more than $235 million, Mötley Crüe has released 9 studio albums, 3 live albums, 8 compilation albums, 9 video albums, 32 music videos, 3 EPs, 30 singles, and 2 box sets during their career.
Nikki Sixx, the founder of Mötley Crüe, has claimed that the band is banned from the Rock & Roll Hall Of Fame. Though no official announcement has been made, it is believed that their drug use and notoriety are the reasons why they will never be inducted.
Mötley Crüe has had 2,005 concerts.
Mötley Crüe is most often considered to be Rock, Metal, Hard Rock, Heavy Metal, Album Oriented Rock (AOR), Alternative Metal, Glam Metal, Sleaze Rock, Estados Unidos, Arena Rock, and Hair Metal.
