Muddy Waters Concert History

Muddy Waters (April 4, 1913 – April 30, 1983) was one of the most influential blues musicians of the 20th century. He began his career touring with other blues musicians throughout the Mississippi Delta during the 1930s. In 1943, he moved to Chicago where he experienced his big break. There, he released some of the blues' biggest hits including "Rollin' Stone" (1950), "Hoochie Coochie Man" (1954), "Mannish Boy" (1955), and "Got My Mojo Working" (1957), all of which have been included on the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame's list of 500 Songs That Shaped Rock & Roll. In 1958, he traveled to England where he exposed a group of young English musicians to the sounds of Chicago and Delta Blues, including Eric Clapton and the original members of The Rolling Stones, who named their band after Waters's 1950 hit. In 1972, he won his first of six Grammys for Best Ethnic or Traditional Folk Recording. He passed away on April 30 1983, three years after his induction into the Blues Foundation Hall of Fame.
