New Edition is an American Pop/R&B group formed in Boston, Massachusetts in 1978, that was most popular during the 1980s. Guided by producer Maurice Starr, New Edition was originally a Jackson 5-esque collection of five young African American teenage singers, including lead singers Ralph Tresvant and Bobby Brown, and vocalists Ricky Bell, Michael Bivins and Ronnie DeVoe. The group was notable for #1 singles such as "Cool It Now," "Candy Girl," and "Mr. Telephone Man" and their success led to the creation of late-1980s and 1990s boy bands like New Kids on the Block, The Backstreet Boys, and 'N Sync.

New Edition is an American R&B group based in Boston. Its current lineup is composed of Ralph Tresvant, Bobby Brown, Johnny Gill, Rick Bell, Michael Bilvins, and Ronnie Devoe. Lead vocal duties are usually handled by Tresvant, Brown, Gill, and Bell, while the rapping is handled primarily by Bilvins and Devoe.
Bobby Brown was one of the founding members of New Edition; however, he left the group in early 1986, reuniting with the band several years later before again departing in 1997.
There are several explanations for Bobby Brown's first departure. Initially Brown cited mistreatment by the group’s management and the prospect of a solo career but has since said he was kicked out of the band. However, Tresvant said Brown was not kicked out but chose to leave for his own reasons.
Nonetheless, Brown reunited with New Edition at the 1990 MTV Video Music Awards, and in 1996, he performed on the New Edition album Home Again. However, in 1997 he left the group again due to his struggles with drug addiction and alcoholism. He again reunited with in 2005 and has been regularly performing with the band since the death of Michael Jackson in 2009, an event which reunited all six original members.
Bobby Brown was born on February 5, 1969. He is currently 55 years old. Brown was born in Boston, Massachusetts and grew up in Orchard Park Projects in Roxbury, where he would eventually meet and form friendships with his future bandmates.
