Originally from Chobham, England, Peter Brian Gabriel (born February 13, 1950), is a 73 year old musician and human rights activist who rose to prominence as a lead singer of Genesis from 1967 to 1975. The last Genesis album on which Gabriel appeared was 1974's "The Lamb Lies Down on Broadway." After leaving Genesis, Phil Collins took over as lead singer. In 1977, Gabriel released "Solsbury Hill," his first single as a solo artist. The following year he released his debut studio album, the first of four consecutive self-titled albums. The third, released in 1980, was his first number-one in the UK. In 1986, his fifth album "So" also reached the top spot and included "Sledgehammer," his only single to reach the top spot on the US Billboard Hot 100 chart. Other popular Peter Gabriel songs include "In Your Eyes," "Don't Give Up" (with Kate Bush), "Shock the Monkey," "Games Without Frontiers," "Red Rain," "Big Time," "The Book of Love," and his anti-apartheid single "Biko," written in 1980 at the height of South African apartheid.
