In 1976, Deep Purple, an early heavy metal band, broke up. David Coverdale, the lead vocalist, went on to form Whitesnake in 1978 while other former Deep Purple members went on to form their own new bands and pursue solo projects.
When Whitesnake first formed, the band created a unique blues-rock sound. However, Whitesnake is more often known for their glam metal period which began with the release of their sixth album Slide It In in 1984. As the band’s influence spread from the UK to the US, Whitesnake began to more heavily embrace the glam metal sound and aesthetic until its eventual disbandment in 1990.
David Coverdale is the founder and the lead singer of Whitesnake. He is the only member of the band to have remained with Whitesnake during every iteration of the band.
Both Whitesnake and Rainbow were formed from members of Deep Purple before its disbandment in 1976.
David Coverdale is invalid_date years old. He was born on September 22, 1951.
Whitesnake's debut album Trouble was released in October of 1978.
Whitesnake has broken up and reunited several times. The first break up occurred in 1990 when founder David Coverdale formally disbanded the group, claiming that he had become exhausted from the last 12 years of recording, performing, and touring. He encouraged other members of Whitesnake to pursue other opportunities.
In 1994, after the commercial success of Whitesnake’s Greatest Hits, the band reunited for a Greatest Hits tour. At the end of the tour, the band was dropped from the record label EMI, but Coverdale was retained.
Though the band never technically got back together during this period, Restless Hearts, which Coverdale created as a solo project, was released by EMI under the band name David Coverdale and Whitesnake. Subsequently, a Whitesnake farewell tour was announced. When the tour ended, the band again disbanded.
The band next got back together in 2003 and toured with the Scorpions before joining the Rock Never Stops Tour. Since then the band has continued touring and released several albums.

Professional model and actress Julia Ellen Kitaean, also called “Tawny Kitaen,” appeared in the Whitesnake music video for the song “Here I Go Again” and several others including “Still of the Night” and “Is This Love.” Between 1989 and 1991, she was married to lead singer and founder of Whitesnake David Coverdale.
