Plus vraiment besoin de présenter The Ex, groupe néerlandais qui en 30 ans de musique a écrit une page de l’histoire du rock indépendant européen.
Leur influence est majeure sur de nombreux groupes, comme Shellac, Sonic Youth ou Fugazi, qui s’en réclament ouvertement.
Punk par devoir, expérimental par goût et ouvert aux autres par nécessité, le groupe a évolué et exploré bien d’autres horizons (jazz, musique improvisée, musique africaine, noise rock) grâce notamment à ses multiples collaborations.
La fraîcheur de leur son et l’impertinence de leurs improvisations leur permettent de rencontrer et de travailler avec de grands noms de la scène post-punk et freejazz comme Steve Albini, Tortoise, I.C.P., Han Bennink, Zu, Getatchew Mekurya ou le regretté Tom Cora avec qui ils enregistreront deux albums.
