Of all the bands, that rocked in the mid-sixties, the Sonics stood out as a a true phenomenon. Blending beat, rhythm'n'blues & rock'n'roll and taking them to the edge, they shaped the blueprint of garage rock. With drums sounding like cannons, tough guitar riffs, a wild wailing sax and the inimitable coarse, yet soulful voice of keyboard player & vocalist Gerry Roslie, The Sonics were louder, wilder and more raw than the rest.
From 1964 to 66 they pounded out a string of hits: The Witch, Psycho, Cinderella, Shot Down, Strychnine, Have Love Will Travel, Boss Hoss, He's Waitin' building a strong following in the Nothwest of the U.S., but failing too chart nationwide.
While most of their contemporaries weren't able to catch up with their raw energy, following generations got inspired, recognising the early flame, that predated punkrock by a decade. The impact they make is heard until the present day, their work has since been covered by a countless number of bands, including Nirvana, Mudhoney, The Hives and The White Stripes, all citing The Sonics as one of their major influences.
Since 2007 The Sonics have started again. With Dusty Watson (formerly with Agent Orange, Supersuckers & Dick Dale) taking over on drums and Freddie Dennis on vocals & bass the new line-up is ready to rock the world. In 2011 they released '8', their first output since the 60's, 2014 will see the release of a new full-length album, the recordings with producer by Jim Diamond (White Stripes, Black Keys,...) have just been completed.
On this night The Sonics will be supported by The Jackets (https://www.facebook.com/thejack...) from Bern/Switzerland purveying finest 60's Fuzzsounds and Go!Zilla from Florence/Italy specialising in Acid Psychedelic Punk.
