The Grateful Dead was founded in 1965. Three decades later, the group disbanded following the death of founding member Jerry Garcia. 20 years after that, the surviving members of the band reunited to perform a series of 5 concerts to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the band's founding. The first two took place in Santa Clarita, California and the last three took place at Soldier Field in Chicago where the Grateful Dead performed their final show on July 9, 1995. Partly due to the success of these shows, Dead & Company, a spinoff of the Grateful Dead was formally created the following month with its first show taking place that Halloween.
