SELLERSVILLE, Pa. — Jeff Daniels has been winning over audiences on stage and on screen for more than four decades.

His resume is packed with critical and commercial hits — "Terms of Endearment," "The Purple Rose of Cairo," "Gettysburg," "The Newsroom," "Godless" and, of course, "Dumb and Dumber" — to name a few. Daniels has also written nearly two dozen plays, launched his own theater company, and spent a year on Broadway playing Atticus Finch in "To Kill a Mockingbird."

But his passion for songwriting may not be as immediately familiar with fans — or even his fellow entertainers. And that's just fine with him.
"I'm surprised when they do know, and I use that to my advantage," Daniels told 69 News. "The expectations are so low when an actor picks up a guitar — and we all think we can. It's like, I'm not a doctor, but I play one on TV. I'm not a musician, but I have a guitar in my hand and I've written songs."

Those songs have been slowly filling up a catalog of music that he's been developing and fine-tuning over the past 40-plus years. His songs are slice-of-life and — like the man behind them — contemplative, expressive, funny and honest.

"For someone who had to drop out of music theory class in college because it involved math, I've gone almost as far a someone could go, but it's gotten better," Daniels joked. "The finger picking I really enjoy."

Daniels will return Wednesday to the Sellersville Theater in Sellersville, Bucks County, where he'll perform an evening of original music and storytelling.
