I saw George Clinton and Parliament Funkadelic tonight. It was, quite simply, AWESOME. Opened with 'Super Stupid' which was incredible, chanting 'Up For The Down Stroke' at the end. 'Maggot Brain' was the first Funkadelic album I ever bought when I was 15 and it had a huge effect on me. I loved 'Super Stupid' from the get-go. Music has moved me plenty of times but nothing could prepare for them doing the song 'Maggot Brain' right in the middle of the set. Blackbyrd McKnight on guitar, playing his ass off. This music touched me on a deep, profound level, and the feelings, in line with the sounds, weren't always pleasant. It shook me to my core, to the point where there were tears in my eyes and it took me a couple songs to recover. Even then I had to force it, reminding myself that I should appreciate the rest of the set no matter how flooring MB was. Also got 'Give Up The Funk which was exciting. No 'Mothership Connection' which I would LOVE to see so I've decided I'm gonna go to whatever shows I can for the rest of the tour.
