PE was pushing their first album. Before they went on there was dancing w Red Alert , Melle Mel , and a few others up in the DJ booth. Red Alert threatened to stop spinning if “the Brooklyn Crew don’t stop stompin’ people!” The brothers were walking around in vented down jackets taking people’s money! I could sense the wagons circling.

PE came on after Cee and 1 or 2 other acts that did one song apiece. PE struggled up there. The music wasn’t danceable and the crowd wasn’t into the politics. Looking back, it was very experimental. But, Chuck D began haranguing the crowd, saying we were all “sleeping” and just putting us down. The crowd booed and yelled back. Seems like even the DJ didn’t love it. I love their first two albums, though.
