A brief history of the Central Presbyterian Church of Washington, D.C. and Wilson Center

On December 19, 1913, President Woodrow Wilson, who was a regular member of this church congregation, laid the cornerstone at 15th and Irving Streets. The new building was occupied in February 1914. On November 18, 1956 a bronze tablet was unveiled by Mrs. Woodrow Wilson, renaming the educational building the Woodrow Wilson Building, hence the name, Wilson Center. As a concert venue, it played host to the punk/hardcore music scene from 1981 until 1996. Former home of Capital City Charter School, currently The Next Step Public Charter School.
