On December 10, 1967—the day after their Cleveland shows - traveling to Madison, Wisconsin. The plane crashed into Lake Monona, claiming the lives of Otis Redding and most on board.

Bar-Kay Members Perished:
Jimmie King (Guitar, age 18)
Ronnie Caldwell (Organ, age 18)
Phalon Jones (Saxophone, age 19)
Carl Cunningham (Drums, age 18)
The Lone Survivor: Ben Cauley (Trumpet) survived by unbuckling his seatbelt just before impact and clinging to a seat cushion in the freezing water.
The Absent Member: James Alexander (Bassist) was not on the flight because the small plane only held eight people; it was his turn to take a commercial flight.
