My first of four Van Hales shows, and not just the best of the four but one of the best shows I ever attended period! I went with my brother Tony and his friends, who had seen Van Halen the year before at The Texas Jam at the Cotton Bowl where the up and coming Halen blew everybody away. This show at the Civic Plaza, with a sold out crowd of like 5000 was almost the night to the last date on their first headling tour, although not the big arenas most of the time but like our mid size Civic. Except for when I first saw AC/DC, I never experienced a crowd so hyped up full of anticipation for a show. When Van Halen opened with "Light Up The Skies" the place exploded! Seeing Eddie up close and playing his revolutionary style was mindblowing. I think alot of the crowd was guitar players just shaking their heads. David Lee Roth was the surperb frontman, at this point he was singing most of the lyrics, not like he was in later years. It was just a trancedent event, you knew you were witnessing something extraordinary. So yeah, it was great.
