OneRepublic had been off the Dutch festival radar for a few years since their last visit back in 2015. However, their latest album has ensured a comeback and a great one. Would've been a better headliner in terms of music than Robbie Williams

AN EARLY HEADLINER
Insiders have heard for a long time about this project in which Alice Cooper shares a stage with Joe Perry (Aerosmith) and Johnny Depp since 2015. The setlist is a mix of own, obscure material, great covers and some original work. Alice Cooper's voice hasn't changed into his 70s and he still enjoys the road enough to go on tour with the Alice Cooper band, right after this tour finishes. Still an amazing front man who knows how to play with his audience. 'School's Out' is still a perfect finisher of the set. Joe Perry shows that 50 years after Aerosmith started, he has become more and more of a fantastic guitar player. 'Walk This Way' is still a song that inspires thousands. Yet Perry's voice never made him famous, and that remains to this days. And unexpected great singing voice appeared with Johnny Depp, his voice truly suits Bowie's 'Heroes' as no other since the musical genius himself passed back in 2016. Another, more obscure cover of 'People Who Died' with Depp on vocals leaves a big impression showing many friends who passed: 'Jimi Hendrix, David Bowie, Tom Petty, Kurt Cobain and Taylor Hawkins' to name a few. Depp's guitarwork impressed me, having heard some footage from their early days where there was still room for improvement. It seems the guitar was his way through the divorce. The 4th, less famous vampire, Tommy Hendriksen is probably the least famous, but also a really good guitar player with plenty of interaction with the audience. All in all this is the type of gig you never want to end, and one that I would happily redo on a future tour if it happens. Great experience and probably a big surprise to the less prepared at Pinkpop!

FRUSCIANTASTIC
A former biggest band in the world, still going strong. Even though their most popular days are long gone in the 'Californication, By The Way and Stadium Arcadium'-era Anthony, John, Flea and Chad still perform like the animals they were back then. Anthony may have gotten a little older, but he's still jumping around with his left ankle in a brace to prevent further tendon injuries. His voice sounded pretty good this night, a lot better than during their previous visit back in 2016. Flea still proves to be one of the best bass players of his generation. Chad Smith and himself make one of the best rhythm sections, without any mistakes and a lot of funk. And then, John Frusciante, the man who returned to the Peppers again. And how much of an impact that made. After his latest departure, the guitar (played by Josh Klinghoffer) had become almost part of the rhythm section on 'I'm with you' and 'The Getaway'. Flea's bass seemed to make more impact there. But then in 2019, something happened which most fans didn't expect. Frusciante returned, covid kicked in so there was plenty of time to write and record, resulting in 34 (!) songs on 'Unlimited Love' and 'Return of the Dream Canteen'. No masterpieces in itself, but songs like 'Black Summer' and 'Eddie' seem to do well under fans. This concert was a great mix in songs, a way to hear some of their hits that weren't played with Klinghoffer back in 16' such as 'Under the Bridge'. And above all, this was one of the best concerts I have seen from any band at all. Difficult to top this one, but this Peppers line up is magik.

HYPA HYPA!
Watched this band go from strength to strength over the years, from festivals in the U.K. to shows in Munich. Tekkno has seen the momentum amplify. It was a joy to see so many Electric Callboy costumes across the Pinkpop site (myself included). The energy in the crowd was electric and you could see how excited the band were by the response. The sound was superb. Hopefully they will be back soon (and in a higher slot).

SUCK MY PINKPOP
A great set and a return to form for this iconic band! The set was well assembled from start to finish with plenty of classics, a sprinkling of deep cuts and some of the newer material. Topped off with the amazing sound quality of the Pinkpop arena. After the baking heat all weekend, I couldn’t help but love the cool rain shower which appeared mid-set!

Wasn’t sure what to expect from Machine Gun Kelly and a couple of my friends have never been too enthusiastic about him. But, everyone enjoyed the set. Sophie Lloyd was one of the best guitarists seen live in a long time and smashed it out the park. Well worth seeing MGK if you get the chance.

PINKPOP’S OUT
It was fun to see Depp, Cooper and co do their thing, but just didn’t feel it. Lots did and the crowd was having a great time. It just didn’t do anything for me, sadly. If it wasn’t for the Johnny Depp hype, I suspect it would have been largely forgettable. The highlight was seeing Alice Cooper (legend), and Joe Perry doing his thing on guitar was brilliant. The Killing Joke cover, Death and Resurrection was also a nice surprise. But, regrettably … I wouldn’t go and see them again 🤷‍♂️

HOT PINKPOP ☀️
A sweltering day with many a beer getting drunk, we popped over to the other stage to catch Hot Milk. The hype around these has been ongoing for a while, so curiosity ensured I went to see what the fuss was about. Sadly, the stage presence felt forced, the songs didn’t connect and on this occasion Hot Milk didn’t leave a lasting impression. I’m sure, for many - it was a great show. I wish them well, and will see them next time.

I didn’t really know what to expect from Robbie. But, we arrived for his set many beers had been consumed, and what a blast. Super fun, and songs that are instantly recognisable hits, full of nostalgia and Robbie makes it look effortless. His natural stage work, comedic wit and the talented band ensures that, no matter what your natural taste in music, (from Rock to Rap), you can’t help but still enjoy the hit machine Robbie Williams.

Terwijl ik en mijn vrienden gezellig aan het eten waren klonk Jungle by Night op de achtergrond. Ik kon simpelweg niet negeren hoe goed dat ze speelde. Mijn frietje heb ik daarom snel naar achter geklapt, ik MOEST dit van dichtbij meemaken. Wat een energie er van deze groep jongens af komt is niet normaal. Ik heb daar meer gedanst dan bij alle andere acts van Pinkpop bij elkaar. Jullie hebben er een fan bij, ik kan niet wachten tot de volgende keer dat ik Jungle by Night live ga zien!

GREAT SHOW
Ik kom vanaf mijn 15e op pinkpop en ik heb zoveel mooie herinneringen. Maar op een gegeven moment stopt dat en ik was inmiddels al 10 jaar niet geweest. In die periode heb ik mijn vriend ontmoet die ook vroeger altijd naar Pinkpop ging. De laatste jaren waren moeilijk voor ons allebei, en vorig jaar hebben we spontaan besloten om weer eens naar Pinkpop te gaan. We gingen niet speciaal voor de line-up. Dit is het eerste optreden dat we zagen. Zittend in het gras, in de volle zon, geen grote verwachtingen. Het was onverwachts een supergoed optreden en ik voelde me op dat moment zo gelukkig om hier weer terug te zijn, om eindelijk weer iets leuks te kunnen doen. Ik heb staan huilen van alle emoties die naar boven kwamen.

Heerlijke act om de dag mee te beginnen (jammer dat het zo bloedverziekend heet was, maar daar kan Xavier niets aan doen). Vet ook dat hij zoveel verschillende, apparte instrumenten, zoals de didgeridoo, zo moeiteloos in zn muziek verwerkt

Hele vreemde act voor pinkpop, maar het was zeker vermakelijk. Ja, hij ouwehoerde meer dan dat ie zong, maar wat ie zei was best interessant en vaak ook erg grappig. Robbie snapt dat het publiek bestaat uit personen, die allemaal persoonlijk moeten worden overtuigd van z'n kunnen. En daarbij heeft ie natuurlijk ook genoeg hits, bewees hij ook aan het einde van z'n show met een korte a capella samenvatting. Wat overigens wel extra bijdroeg aan het gevoel dat we naar Robbie Williams The Musical zaten te kijken

I first heard Sons on Studio Brussel and immediately was blown away by their energy. But to me the first proof if the band can play live at a festival as good as on the radio is important. So at Pinkpop 2023 I saw them shining and rocking. I expect that next year they move to another bigger stage as Stage 4 clearly got too small soon enough after thet kicked off! Brilliant performance. 🫶🏻🔥🎸🥁🎤🎶

The Black Keys proved that they belong to the best and steady festival live acts of the last year. They get a lot of airplay on the radio stations but that does not mean that it turns out as well when playing live. But - WOW! - what a show they performed last summer on Pinkpop. So many songs became already hits worldwide, it was just a magic walk into memory lane. They are the Gold on the Ceiling in every place they play! 🎸🎶🎤🔥👑🌟
