From the venue:
HYAENAS: Embodying the energy & ferocity of their animal namesake, Hyaenas is a new Indie Rock/Synth Pop band taking the scene by storm. With fun, catchy hooks, their songs are written through a queer feminist lens - exploring meaningful themes from acceptance to vigilance, celebrating a love of nature, self worth, and social justice while drawing inspiration from 80’s icons The Go-Go’s to modern day Indie darlings The Beaches, and synth-pop power quartet Metric.
Hyaenas has been making waves across Western Canada with performances at Squamish Constellation Festival, Coldsnap Festival, Pride Festivals in Vancouver, Fernie, & Salmon Arm, and Khatsahlano Street Party, and has shared the stage with Lauren Ruth Ward, The Pack AD, Kimmortal, and Fake Shark. The palpable chemistry between Sophie Heppell (guitar, vocals), Jessie Robertson (bass), Jen Foster (drums) and Luvia Petersen (synth) make this brand new band feel like it has always been.
Their debut EP “Little Trophy”, produced by coveted Vancouver producers Elisa Pangsaeng (Said The Whale, Yukon Blonde) and Jesse Gander (The Pack AD, White Lung), is out now!
KIMMORTAL: Kimmortal is a queer non-binary filipinx multi-hyphenate artist born in Vancouver, BC on the unceded ancestral territories of the Coast Salish peoples Musqueam, Squamish, and Tsleil-Nations. Combining their passion for hip hop, visual art, theatre, spoken word, ancestral wisdom, and liberation, Kimmortal strives to build worlds that make queer and diasporic weird kids feel like they belong.
Known for their powerful stage presence and multi-dimensional approach to music, Kimmortal has opened for some of their favourite artists including Thundercat, Saul Williams, Shad K, Ruby Ibarra, Saba, Bif Naked, and Gabriel Teodros. They have performed in SXSW, Junofest, Rifflandia, NXNE, Winnipeg Pride Festival, Taking Black Pride (Seattle), and Reeperbahn Germany. Their last album “X marks the Swirl” was announced by Buffy St. Marie as a long-listed nominee for the Polaris in 2019. Later that year it was recognized as top 19 albums of 2019 via CBC and nominated in the 2020 "Hip Hop and Rap" category of Breakout West Music Awards.
CARDIOGRAMS (calgary): Cardiograms are a dual-lead vocal harmony, upbeat melancholy Dark/Dream-pop band. Nicola Cavanagh: Heartache on vocals & guitar. Jess Rox: Heartbreak on vocals & keys. Marek Vermin: Heartthrob on bass. Joel Nye: Heartbeat on drums. Cardiograms will steal your heart & break it!
