4 of us traveled from Perth, Scotland to Kings Cross station car park in a “LADA” with a crate of beer, buck fast and a matchbox of Acid tabs and a bag of speed. First time in London for all of us. Seats were top of the balcony, exactly where one of the pigs exploded out from (imagine that tripping) I had never heard the opening song and thought it was a joke or a supporting band. Took me a while to figure out I was actually watching Floyd. I also missed the spitfire crashing into the other side of the stage.. I seen lots of other things my pals missed or so I thought? Like the “Money” video where they were sawing people’s legs off into wheelbarrows and selling them for money. I seemingly was the only person who saw that on the screen during “Money” …. LSD must have been strong. I am still amazed when we came out Earls Court tube station and the guy drawing the Pink Floyd The Wall and DSOM chalk drawings was from the same area as us. … £27 a ticket and £60 petrol and a sturdy Lada , what a trip.

Amazing crowd, the Celtic connection definitely added to the atmosphere. Gone are the days when you feel your insides vibrate from the bass guitar and that was queuing outside the stadium, from the roadie’s sound test. I can still relive the moment Bono came out to ZOO TV, took me and my mate 2 minutes to shake off the “coming up” of the acid tabs and get from the furthest away hotdog/scotch pie stall at the opposite end of the stage to the heaving part at the front of the barrier. This was U2 at their peak. I seen every tour in Scotland except “Vertigo” from Joshua Tree to “Innocence & experience” and the latter was nothing like a U2 concert. Believe me or not but Bono (my teenage & 20’s hero) just looked at me when after the set he was walking to the exit with his security. I took the opportunity to shake his hand after running down to the barrier and lunging over a couple of wheelchair stricken fans , screaming “BONO” he paused and looked at me as if I was some crazed stalker. I’m sure he literally shit himself. Aged terribly in my opinion, wouldn’t waste £100’s to see them ever again. I loved U2
