Additionally, I'd just recently turned 18 and had graduated from HS, was head-over-heels in love with Brenda (who later became my 1st wife) and, it was the 4th of July afterall. Nugent, hanging from the rope ladder suspended below the helicopter, circled the crowd multiple times to amp them all up. Finally, with the copter hovering off to the right of the stage, Uncle Ted was lowered to the ground then, ran to it and began his set. Btw, Def Leppard took the stage first at 2pm to play songs from their just released first album. The Scorpions played next, then Pat Travers followed by Molly Hatchet then finally, Nugent at about 8:30PM. Fwiw, this concert was the one and only one ever done at Road Atlanta. And, originally, ZZ Top was to have been the main Headline band. But, scheduling problems with them cropped up a couple months or so before the show resulting in Nugent taking over.

Also, a case of Budweiser in 1980 was less than $10, so, to pay $2 for one can at the concert seemed high - heck, back then, it represented about 5 times its retail price. And, back then, the "Devil's Lettuce" was about $40 / ounce so, individual Doobies typically went for $1 each and were widely available at the concert. Don't kid yourself, even at a 4% level, one shared between two would do the job nicely. Keep in mind that 35,000 people, primarily white kids from suburbia aged 15 to 30 showed up to party to Nugent and Molly Hatchet. That fact alone speaks volumes about the times back then.

Concert # 7 for me - Ticket was $14.00. Girlfriend Brenda went with me. It was a scorching hot day on the grassy field looking pretty much straight on at the stage. We had a cooler with fried chicken, beer and sodas with us and we baked under the sun all day long. To take the stage, Nugent descended a rope ladder from a helicopter with his guitar slung over himself; it was incredible to see. Def Leppard and the Scorpions were just making their initial footprints on the Rock scene back then. Molly Hatchet rocked Hard! This show is one of the best I've seen and, just $14 in 1980 money!
