Born and grew up in Sardinia, Gruff later moved in Turin, where he first discovered rap music. He first begun to act as a break dancer and DJ as early as 1982, when hip hop was still practically unknown in Italy. Later he moved to France where he worked along with a number of French artists. He came back to Italy and in 1991 he joined the crew Isola Posse All-Stars.
