While Heaven Wept (often abbreviated as WHW) is an American epic doom metal band from Dale City, Virginia. The band is led by guitarist, composer, and founding member Tom Phillips, who serves as its primary creative force. Known for a melodic and classically influenced style, While Heaven Wept is often compared to bands such as Solitude Aeturnus and Solstice, the latter of which Phillips was previously a member. Over time, the band's sound evolved beyond traditional doom metal, incorporating elements of progressive and other metal subgenres.
