Amazing Day. Watched from the pitch.
Every Band was excellent or maybe it was a beautiful sunny day that made it appear so.
The vibe was great. Stackridge were fun with a very eccentric English feel. Chaka Khan and Rufus very funky and tight. No mean feat.
I was a big fan of Joe Walsh in the James Gang and Barnstorm and he and his band didn't disappoint.
The Eagles were just breaking through on a rapid ascent, were hungrier and had an edge to them. They wowed the crowd and had the stands swaying along.
The Beach Boys probably stole the day. The surf sounds perfectly suited the sunshine and the crowd were buzzing after the Eagles. They brought the California coast and Pacific Ocean to Wembley. We all just sang and danced along to their huge catalogue of hits. Perfect for the day.
By the time Elton hit the stage the crowd were right up for a great headliner.
I have always recalled that Elton played the whole of the Captain Fantastic album from the start of the gig which bored the audience to tears after the other upbeat bands but set list here says different. I then thought he played his older stuff in the second half which was great.
Brilliant day in all. Cannot believe it was 51 years ago.
