Billy Clone and The Same were (along with their hardcore contemporaries The Consumers) one of the first major punk/New Wave bands in the Southwest. The band formed in the late 1970s when Mike Corte, Bruce Connole and Damon Doiron united to bring their cerebral punk sound to Phoenix. Corte was the group's chief songwriter. I was there, front table center. The Clones played a lot at Dooley’s. I was at many shows there including when they opened for The Ramones and Iggy Pop.
