Bruce Frederick Joseph Springsteen, better known as Bruce Springsteen or “The Boss,” is is a music icon and one of the pioneers of the heartland rock genre, which combines mainstream rock music with a narration about the working conditions in America.
Over the last six decades, he has won numerous awards and was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1999 by Bono of U2.
The infamous nickname is due to the “mafia-like” situation where Springsteen collected money for every show he and the E Street Band performed at. Since he was responsible for evenly distributing what the band earned, his band mates started calling him “The Boss.” The name spread throughout the 1960’s and has stuck ever since.
Bruce Springsteen is 74 years old and was born on September 23, 1949.
The Boss is 5'8" (1.77m) tall. He’s eight inches shorter than his late E Street Band saxophonist Clarence Clemons, who was 6'4" (1.96m) tall.
Springsteen is worth around $500 million. With that amount, he’s currently the fourth richest rock star in the world. Ahead of Springsteen is Jimmy Buffet ($600 million), Bono ($700 million), and Paul McCartney ($1.2 billion).
Springsteen and his wife Patti Scialfia live on a 160-acre equestrian estate in Colts Neck, New Jersey. The couple also owns an estate in Benedict Canyon, Beverly Hills.
Born in New Jersey, The Boss was influenced by both Frank Sinatra and Elvis Presley. He started playing the guitar at seven years old. Ironically, he didn’t have a feel for the instrument at first, but during his mid-teens, he became a prodigy.
Bruce Springsteen and Patti Scialfa have been married for 32 years. They were married on June 8, 1991. Two years earlier, Springsteen divorced his first wife, Julianne Phillips, with whom he was married between 1985-1989.
It was rumored that Springsteen already had a relationship with Scialfa while he was still married to Phillips, sparking criticism from both his fans and the media around the time of the divorce.
During President Joe Biden’s 2021 Inauguration at the Lincoln Memorial, Bruce Springsteen performed “Land of Hope and Dreams.” The performance was streamed live so that those who could not attend physically were still able to enjoy remotely.
Springsteen has three kids with Patti Scialfa – Evan James Springsteen, Jessica Rae Springsteen, and Samuel Ryan Springsteen.
