Burt Bacharach (May 12, 1928 – February 8, 2023) was a multi-faceted musician, often regarded as one of the most influential and prolific composers and songwriters of the 20th century. In 1957, he co-wrote "The Story of My Life" with Hal David. It was his first song to reach the top spot on the US Country Singles chart and the beginning of a decades-long partnership between David and Bacharach. In 1969, Bacharach composed the musical score for the film "Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid." It featured the song "Raindrops Keep Fallin' on My Head," co-written by Bacharach and David. The score won Bacharach an Oscar, a Golden Globe, and a Grammy while the single won him an additional Oscar. By the end of his life in 2023, over six dozen of his songs had peaked in the Top 40 in the US. He also won some of the most prestigious industry accolades including a Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award, an honorary Doctorate of Music from Berklee College of Music, and a Gershwin Prize from the Libary of Congress.
