Donna Jean Godchaux Concert History

Donna Jean Godchaux (full name: Donna Jean Thatcher Godchaux-MacKay, August 22, 1947 - November 2, 2025) was a singer-songwriter who rose to prominence as a backup singer in the late 1960s. In 1972, she joined the Grateful Dead, with whom her husband Keith had been performing for about a year. In 1979, the two departed the Dead together and formed the Heart of Gold Band. When Keith died in a car accident that July, the band broke up and Donna remarried to David MacKay. Over the next several decades, Donna performed with a number of other groups, including the Jerry Garcia Band and The Zen Tricksters. Donna Jean Godchaux died from cancer on November 2, 2025. She was 78 years old.
