Het is allemaal begonnen toen Erwin nog op de basisschool zat. Zijn moeder hoorde hem al van ver aankomen. Altijd zingend of fluitend op weg naar huis. Hij was als kind al een echt gangmakertje. Thuis aangekomen ging de radio meteen aan en Erwin zong uit volle borst met alle soorten muziek mee. Zijn moeder vroeg hem herhaaldelijk om iets rustiger te zingen omdat zij bang was dat anders de buren gingen klagen. Van kinds af aan had hij eigenlijk al geen microfoon nodig.
