Exo (엑소) is a Chinese-South Korean K-pop boy band that started in 2012 with 12 members divided into two sub-groups: Exo-K, which performed in Korean toward a primarily South Korean audience, and Exo-M, which performed in Mandarin toward a primarily Chinese audience. In 2014, Exo-M and Exo-K joined together to release EP Overdose. After the departure of several founding members, Exo was again divided into two new sub-units in 2016: Exo-CBX and Exo-S.

Exo is generally categorized as K-pop, a style of music which blends traditional pop elements with hip-hop, dance, and electronic elements. Some might argue the genre is less about the music and more about the “K-pop boy band” aesthetic.

Exo’s debut album Mama dropped on April 8, 2012.

Suho is a highly regarded member of the Exo band and plays the role of lead vocalist and group leader. SM entertainment introduced him as the tenth Exo group member in 2012 after training for more than five years. His stage name translates to "protect like a guardian," quite a befitting name for his role.

Kris, Tao, and Luhan were all founding members of Exo but left due to legal issues between themselves and SM Entertainment that could not be amicably resolved.
