Jane Vain's 2011 Concert History

Jane Vain has spent the last several years as Calgary's undisputed leader in macabre indie rock — even if leader Jamie Fooks hasn't necessarily lived in the city for that entire time. Give Us Your Hands proves Fooks and the rest of her band still have the chops, but there are occasions when the drone outweighs the lilting melodies that otherwise used to carry the tunes. "AmphAmf" and "Everything is Not Going to be Okay" are both a little on the dull side, favouring an imposed moodiness over an earned one.
