John Gillespie was guitarist and vocalist of the band Kickball . This band featured Mike Garrigan on bass, John Plymale on drums, and John Gillespie on guitar and vocals. It was through John Gillespie that Mike Garrigan was introduced to Nic Brown and Mark Kano from Athenaeum .
