Lloyd Price's 2002 Concert History

Lloyd Price (March 9, 1933 – May 3, 2021) was an R&B, soul, and swing musician who helped popularize the early 20th-century New Orleans sound, from which rock & roll music evolved. His first big hit was “Lawdy Miss Clawdy” (1952), which featured Fats Domino on piano. He was drafted into the military in 1953. Upon returning from Korea in 1956, he continued his musical career, releasing a number of successful hits including "Stagger Lee" (1958), "Personality" (1959), and "I'm Gonna Get Married" (1959). In 1962, he co-founded Double L Records and in the 1970s, he was a boxing promoter. In 1994 he was honored with the Pioneer Award from the Rhythm and Blues Foundation and has received inductions into the Rock & Roll, National Black Sports & Entertainment, Louisiana, and National Rhythm and Blues Halls of Fame. He passed away in 2021 from diabetes-related complications.
