In 1995, Matchbox Twenty formed in Orlando Florida, and quickly become one of the most popular and influential post-grunge, alternative rock bands of the 1990s and early 2000s. The band's 1996 debut album "Yourself or Someone Like You" rose to the top of the charts in several countries, selling over 13 million copies worldwide since its initial release. After releasing two more multi-platinum albums in the early 2000s, Matchbox Twenty went on hiatus between 2004 and 2007. Shortly after reuniting, the band released "Exile on Mainstream," its first compilation album. In 2012, Matchbox Twenty's fourth studio album "North" become the band's first to reach the number-one spot on the Billboard 200 chart. Though the band was slated to go on tour in 2020, the tour was rescheduled to 2023 due to the coronavirus pandemic.
