New Kids on the Block was formed in 1984. Their debut single "Be My Girl" was released in 1986 and the band achieved international stardom in 1989 when singles from their second album Hangin’ Tough began receiving regular air play on radio stations and their music videos started playing regularly on MTV. Rolling Stone ranked their 1989 breakout number 16 in their 2012 list of Top 25 Teen Idol Breakout Moments.
After disbanding in 1994, New Kids on the Block reunited in 2008 and are still going strong while each member of the band is flourishing in their own right:
New Kids on the Block were most popular between 1984 and 1994. However, even after they disbanded, they remained popular and arguably inspired the boy band craze of the mid to late 1990s. They even created a short lived band with members of the Backstreet Boys between 2010 and 2012 called "NKOTBSB."
New Kids on the Block tickets can range anywhere from $24 at the Ball Arena in Colorado to over $4,000 for a suite at Canada's Scotiabank Arena.
The group originally called themselves "Nynuk," but the name was so cringe-worthy the members decided they had to find something else.
Jonathan Knight, the older Knight brother is gay. There was some controversy around Jonathan's sexuality. Some claimed he was trying to hide the fact that he was gay and that his outing was not by his own choice but the result of media reports about his sexuality.
Donnie Wahlberg is one of the founding members of New Kids on the Block, but Mark Wahlberg was also in the band for a few months when it first started.
