From 2000 to 2007, Pike 27 was a fixture on the Cincinnati music scene. The band garnered acclaim and awards for their 2001 release Falling Down Hard, opened for national acts (including Chuck Prophet, Dave Alvin, Robbie Fulks, Vigilantes of Love, Jason Ringenberg, and the Ass Ponys), and developed a reputation as one of the best live acts in the area. The band went on hiatus when singer/songwriter Dave Purcell moved away to work as a sociology professor at Kent State University.
