Plaitwrights is a Toronto duo consisting of 20-year-olds Xylk Lorena and Angela Abrenica. Though polar opposites, Xylk – a raw, lyrical genius and blazing performer - and Angela – an alternative, urban Ella Fitzgerald - work together to produce an eclectic sound that can never fit comfortably into one genre. It’s rooted in traditional hip-hop, but features a live band, highlights the occasional sampling, and pulls together elements of electro, jazz, folk and pop.
