The Oceanographers is an indie-rock-pop band from Hawaii which started in California in 2010. Current members include singer-songwriter/guitarist Justin Miyamoto and multi-instrumentalist/female vocalist Marya Szaur. The Oceanographers are influenced by the over the top epic music of Arcade Fire, the smooth tones of 60's surf rock, and the improvisational philosophies of jazz and blues. The Oceanographers try to bridge the gap between pop and rock with dense musical arrangements, layered over simple and catchy lyrics.
