The Peels was founded by Benny Soebardja together with Gumilang Kentjana Putra, Budhi Sukma Garna, and Dedy Budhiman Garna. This band was a source of pride for the city of Bandung. The group achieved international recognition by successfully breaking into neighbouring countries, namely Malaysia and Singapore. The Peels' career in Singapore began in 1967 during a holiday visit when they were invited to perform at a concert themed Panggung Negara. Following widespread praise and a warm reception, The Peels received several performance offers.
