The Rolling Stones is an English rock band whose blues-infused music propelled them to fame during the 1960s and ‘70s. As one of the oldest rock bands in history the Rolling Stones has been performing and recording new music continuously for over 60 years. In 1987, the band won a Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award and two years later was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. At that time, the band was newly fromed and hadn’t selected a name but when Jagger was asked, he saw the words “Rollin” Stone” on a nearby Muddy Walters album and gave “the Rollin’ Stones” as the name. The name was slightly altered shortly after the band’s first gig to “The Rolling Stones.”

1. On October 25, 1964, the band performed on The Ed Sullivan Show for the first time to promote 12 X 5, which had been released eight days earlier.
2. On May 2, 1965, The Rolling Stones performed “The Last Time,” “Little Rooster,” and “Someone to Love,” despite Ed Sullivan’s reservations about allowing the band to perform a second time.
3. On February 13, 1966, Ed Sullivan invited the band to pefrom their first international Number One hit “(I Can’t Get No) Satisfaction.”
4. On September 11, 1966, The Rolling Stones performed with Louis Armstrong and Joan Rivers on the first season of the 1966 fall season of the show.
5. On January 15, 1967, The Rolling Stones returned to promote Between the Buttons, which was released five days later.
6. On November 23, 1969, The Rolling Stones performed on The Ed Sullivan Show for the final time

In 1969, Brian Jones was fired from The Rolling Stones. He had been in the band for 8 years and this left a huge hole to fill. He played many instruments, including guitar and harmonica, and also performed backup vocals on several. But as with many rock stars, he developed substance abuse issues as did fellow members of the band, which intensified existing arguments and led to Jones’s final departure from the band. He was replaced by Mick Taylor.
