Triumph was originally founded with four members:

• Mike Levine on vocals, bass, keyboard, and synthesizer
• Gil Moore on drums, percussion, and vocals
• Fred Keeler on guitar
• Peter Young on keyboard and organ

After the release of the first single, Keeler and Young left the band. They were replaced by Rik Emmett who joined the band on vocals, synthesizers, keyboards, bass, and guitar. Emmett, Levine, and Moore are considered Triumph's classic trio even though Emmett technically wasn’t a founding member.

The classic lineup of Triumph includes three members whose ages are:

• Rik Emmett was born on July 10, 1953 and is 70 years old.
• Gil Moore was born on October 4, 1953 and is 70 years old.
• Mike Levine was born on June 1, 1949 and is 74 years old.

Triumph was formed in 1975 and rose to prominence in the late 1970s and ‘80s, capitalizing on its reputation as a live band.

In 1988, Emmett quit Triumph to pursue a solo career. This caused the classic Triumph trio to officially breakup for the first time. When asked why he left Emmett said, "I quit Triumph because I was unable to fulfill my own goals in the Triumph culture. Additionally, there was pressure from managers, agents, and even the record label."

Triumph, however, did not officially breakup at this point. While the band technically became a duo after Emmett left, they replaced him with Phil X in 1992. But in 1993 when Polygram, the record label which signed Triumph, dissolved, Triumph formally disbanded. In the subsequent years, they reunited several times but not for any significant period of time.

Triumph performed at the Santa Monica Civic Auditorium on October 30, 1981.

Both Rush and Triumph were famous Canadian bands throughout the 1970s and ‘80s. While both were popular around the same time period, Rush was formed around seven years earlier than Triumph.

Triumph has had 390 concerts.

Triumph is most often considered to be Rock, Metal, Hard Rock, Classic Rock, Progressive Rock, Soft Rock, Album Oriented Rock (AOR), Mellow Gold, Canadian, Glam Metal, Classic Canadian Rock, and Canadian Metal.
