Vice or Virtue, based in Richmond and Fredricksburg, VA started off under the name "The Cognition Concept" as a collaboration between Corey Williams (ex-Escape Takes Lead) and Tremayne Person (ex-Beneath The Surface). They sought out to make music that was uplifting and different in a sea of negative local bands. Inspired by the likes of TesseracT, Uneven Structure, and other thickly ambient-based groove bands, they began works on their then untitled release.
